Your Health is Your Wealth

Health is one of those life qualities you don't notice until you lose it. Our society and culture, both value hard work and dedication to your J.O.B. above all else.

WE are praised when we are BUSY, regardless of what we are busy doing. Have a problem? Work more, better, harder, longer. When you do this, the story goes, you achieve the success and/or money you have earned for your dedication and perseverance. However, busy is not always a productive busy, but it provides a distraction from what is truly important. Ourselves.

As a consequence, we let our health, nutrition and overall wellbeing slowly, and almost unnoticeably, slip and slide until one day, the damage is done and popping pills seems like the only way out.

Another busy, more likely to apply to women is the martyrdom of motherhood.

The kids come first. Before your needs. That’s just the way it is.

Every heard a stewardess going through safety protocols on an airplane say “put the oxygen mask on your child” before you put it on yourself? Didn’t think so. There is a reason for that. If you pass out before you get the mask on, you are no use to your child. Looking after yourself is NOT SELFISH. As a matter of fact I would call it the ultimate gift you can give your loved ones.

Remember that your children will do what you do, not what you say. Become a great role model for your family by promoting values you practice rather than preach.

Today, lifestyle diseases, such as atherosclerosis, heart disease, stroke, obesity and type 2 diabetes as well as diseases associated with smoking and alcohol and drug abuse are endemic.

Over 70% of adult Americans are overweight or obese, at risk of the illnesses listed above, all of which are easily preventable.

The pharmaceutical industry is basking in the shower of money as so many people rely on their development and production of new drugs to treat these debilitating and often life threatening conditions.

Simple changes in lifestyle are the best solution! Many conditions can be reversed and repaired once a person persists with better habits over time. This is also how you make a healthy LIFESTYLE that is sustainable.

We’ve all been sick with a cold or the flu. Think how miserable you felt, wishing you just felt better. Once you lose your health to a life threatening disease, your perspective tends to shift. You realize that without health, all that hard work, dedication and money literally means nothing.

So stop making excuses.  Make small changes. Look back at your wedding photo or graduation picture. Was that 30 days ago? NO! Time brought you to where you are now, and only travelling consistently, thoughtfully, and purposely into the future will bring you back toward your better self.

The choice is to pay now, in terms of time, some effort and work, or pay later in discomfort and increasing financial cost.

Ask yourself this: Can you afford NOT TO take care of yourself?
